Hey Guys,

I've seen this question asked a lot, but I have never seen a deffinate answer. Who has raced a STOCK Banshee vs. a STOCK Raptor on pavement or hard pack (or somewhere that traction was not an issue)? Which one is faster? I can see how there would be mixed results in a drag race since rider skill and a bunch of other variables come into play.

So my next question is which one has a higher top speed? There has to be a deffinate answer to this one since rider skill does not come into play at all.

I'm sure that I'm going to get a bunch of different stories for both, so please only reply if you have actually participated in a race.

My friend has a Banshee and he swears up and down that he knows it will kill a Raptor in a Drag Race and Top Speed. We have never ridden with anybody with a Raptor so I don't know how he can be so sure.

Thanks.

-Josh

Well, I can't say stock for stock.
My shee has a K&N, Graydon Crapline pipes, and a big snorkel (almost no restriction), along with 22" Bearclaws and stock gearing (14/41).
My buddy has a stock Raptor, with LSR axle, and 20"holeshots (and 21" holeshots in front I think). Nothing more...except a skidplate.

We raced on a gravel road, and when I didn't miss any shifts, I'd dust him. But a missed gear would mean a loss (and it did). My top speed was quite faster too. When both in 5th gear, we are equal...but I have a gear left!!! ahahahah . This is mainly thanks to more RPM (pipe and little intake restriction) and bigger tires (compared to a stock shee). When he puts his ridculous 12 teeth sprocket...he'll eat even more dust!!

From my experience, a piped banshee dusts a stock Raptor (I guess mostly everyone was already OK with this), even if the Raptor rider could probably improve his shifting a little.

I thought the Raptor would be closer...but my shee seems to be running awesome. Probably thanks to the "new" intake...I never felt it pull so hard when getting 4th gear in...I love my shee!!

my buddy has fmf pipes on his banshee. in a slooooow roll drag race he could never beat my stock raptor. for that matter my other buddy with toomey t-5s can't either. now with the yoshimura's on the raptor it's devistating.

Stock vs. stock the Raptor will beat a Banshee by several lengths in a drag race in just about any conditions and top end speed is similar. Put a set of pipes and open up the airfilter on a 'Shee and Sianara Raptor. I have raced several stock Banshee's (with ligher riders than me) with my Raptor when it was stock and I could beat them every time (as long as I ran a good race and didn't screw up). When I would race my Raptor against my Banshee that just had reeds, Toomeys, and filter the Raptor could usually pull a slight holeshot but once the Banshee gets wound up in third gear it pulls ahead decisivly. My Banshee could also clean up on stock Banshees as they come seriously detuned from the factory.
Does any of this mean anything for most people in the real world that do other things than drag race? Not really. The Raptor has a good bit of it's power down low which makes it an absolute blast to ride and makes it excell in tight trails or conditions besides wide open running like roads or dunes.
The Banshee gets my adrenaline pumping more because of it's tremendous powerband and seat of the pants pull, but is not faster in all situations.
My take on the subject is if I could only have one or the other I would take the Raptor if I mostly ran woods, MX, or any type of terrain that requires more controllable power and the Banshee for open roads or dunes.

To answer the actual question. I had a totally stock 96 Banshee (except tires) and sold it to someone I ride with, then I bought the Raptor. We raced on a paved road when they both were stock and there is no doubt that the Raptor was faster all the way up. When we raced on Gravel all the Banshee did was spin and even got beat by a 400EX. Now my Raptor is modified and that Banshee is still bone stock so its not really that close anymore. So to answer the actual question here. Stock for stock, on pavement, with even rider ability the Raptor will win every time. A properly piped and jetted Banshee probably will beat a Raptor in a drag (on pavement), even though I never have been witness to a race like that. But thats not really a fair comparison and it bothers me that people always just throw that statement in and dismiss the Raptor as being slower. I mean pipes, silencers, and jetting are not exactly cheap mods for a Banshee. I have less than $500 worth of parts on my Raptor and if you look at my GPS reading it does 83 MPH, so its all relative.

Xplor,
exagerating what?? Weren't you whining "hey you threw a roost of gravel, it hurts!!" ahahahahah. So it means you weren't on my side slightly behind...you had been dropped miles behind (I know my roost is several miles long)
Dare you say you'd win when I got everything correct (starting rpm and shiftig)...this leads me to say something else...it's easier to loose on the shee than it is on the Raptor (on the shee, if you fall off the powerband, the time you clutch is too much...the Raptor has no powerband, so you can't miss it... and shifting on the shee is kina "mmmh, did the next gear get in?"...)

I can't wait to race the scram...drag king...

Why would I be running lean?? Didn't you say "260 jets??? You're gonna be way rich with these!!". ahah. Don't worry, I'm always right
