hello like it says i need help finding year model of my 3 wheeler
i got it for free its a yamaha was yellow painted green farmer gave it to me for free for helping him it. Runs great other then it needs piston rings smoke really bad burning oil well all i no is it has a hard tail no rear shocks pull start no reverse and no electric start that i can see haha vin is 9 digit vin is 21v-001120 its on the engine and frame any help will be greatly appreciated might be a 1983 YTM200K

This is to help figure out the year/model for Yamaha's only.

1980 - 1984 have a 9 digit serial number for the engine/frame. They will match, unless someone has changed the engine. VIN decoders will not work.

1985~ - 9 digit on engine, 15 digit on frame. You can use a VIN decoder to figure out the year, such as this.

so the best i can go on is it being 1983 YTM200K ?

 

update and off topic but i pulled my top end off today and noticed my piston rings look
ok so are they really bad ? there not broken or any thing what happens when i pull start it. It burns oil really bad but for 5 sec cold start no smoke then rolls the coal at any speed if i bring the rpms up more smoke. they sound bad but dont look it ?

 

You can't just look at engine parts and say they're okay. Average new ring end gap on most 4 strokes is between .008 to .014 on average when you just have the rings installed in the cylinder. Wear limit around .020 or so ball park range. If it does smoke like you say under throttle,then blow by of oil past the rings is what it sounds like. yea good point well i just ordered new rings and top end gaskets we will see if it fixs it if not i will get a hole new top end.
