Default electric start problems

My 1990 big bear electric start doesn't work the solenoid is working properly and the starter looks to.be fine. When I try the electric start the solenoid just clicks once but nothing else happens. How can I test the starter and would the starter be the.problem?

Get a test lamp, connect one side to earth and the other to the live post on the starter, ignition on, press the starter button, if the lamp lights you have a starter problem, if it doesn't, but the solenoid clicks, it is the solenoid that is faulty. Worn brushes are the most common fault with quad starting systems, they can be changed fairly easily, just watch out where shims etc, go and check the com for burning.

Must be the starter because I know for sure the solenoid is fine because I took it off of my other quad to test it
