Did you get the air filter back on? If not then that will cause the engine to run lean and possibly hard to start. You could have possibly melted the piston rings driving it with no air filter, the engine runs lean, which causes it to run much hotter, which causes the exhaust to glow red. What do you mean when you say that it has "tons of compression"? Is it within specs?

Its running to lean. If it ran fine before the airbox got broke I wouldn't touch anything else until I installed the air filter and lid. My quad had much of rhe same deal when I upgraded to the open aluminum airbox. The reason it runs so hot is that you don't get enough fuel to cool to cool the head. So if u start it again make sure u shove a towel into the airbox and see if its any different. Thats what I dis and the I rejetted .
