Default Just picked up a 93 Timberwolf 250

Have been scouring CL for months looking for a reliable and safe quad for my kids to tool around on for around $1000. (I can't believe the number of CRAP quads out there that people want good money for. I mean it should make it down the driveway if you want ten $100 bills from me for it, right?)

FINALLY came upon this 1993 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 that is not the best looking quad out there - has been painted badly and has a section of fender missing - but the things runs really, really well. At least in the 2 days that I have owned it so far. And its so SIMPLE mechanically. I was looking at a lot of other quads from all manufacturers where the engine compartment was just PACKED with God knows what - I was like - how do you work on those? I'm hoping the simple mechanical style of this quad will ensure it lasts for a good long time.

Looking forward to being part of this forum. Thanks.

I just posted a pic of the bike as part of my "garage".

I would like to replace the front plastic - having a hard time finding one - even on Ebay.

do y'all have an atv boneyard around your hometown? we got one down the road and they got a large assortment of used quads, junk quads that are for parts. just thought i'd ask.

surely one of the forum's sponsors can help you out with new plastics.

The old air cooled Yamahas can be treated like a red headed step child and still be super reliable.
I did minimal maintenance on my 250 Moto4 and 350 Big Bear yet it would never let me down.
I just bought a used 350 Grizzly hoping for the same good luck. So far so good.

This is FANTASTIC to hear! I don't plan on treating that poorly, but good to know.

When you reference a "Moto 4" is that the same thing as a "Timberwolf"? I assume so since my mud flaps in the rear have that term on them....

Jaster - will look for a local "boneyard" but don't think that we have anything like that around here - at for ATV parts.

Any idea which sponsor might make plastics for this bike? I don't care if they are not Yamaha parts - reproductions or something unique is fine.

The term Moto4 is odd . I seen it on my 1986 250 2wd and my 1989 350 Big Bear also had it printed on the mud flaps.
I think Yamaha called every thing a Moto 4 when they got out of 3 wheeler and started making 4 wheelers.

Yamaha never changed there air cooled motors. My 86 250 had the same motor as your 93.
My 89 Big Bear had the same 348cc motor they still but in there 2013 350 raptors and Grizzlys to this day .
Check it out 1999 Yamaha Big Bear ATVs This site only goes as old as 1999 but that 348cc is much older then that.

Thanks for the info on the "Moto 4" designation. That makes sense.

Yamaha must have had little complaints and great overall performance with these small, air cooled motors to keep them in production for that long. I agree with them, if it ain't broke - don't fix it!
