1980s Yamaha 400 problems

I have an early 80s Yamaha 400 that used to run like a champ. Now when I kick it it just backfires. I'm not sure if I mixed the gas wrong or not. What affect would that have on the bike? Thank you

Backfiring is usually due to air fuel mixture or air leaks. Check those. Mix some fresh gas too...
