Default Starting issue on 2006 660 Grizzly

I have a long time issue with starting my 660 Grizzly. Nine out of ten times it starts right up. The other time I hear the starter relay click and nothing happens. Another try and it starts right up. I thought it might be the starter relay so I replaced it with another relay. It wasn't the problem. Same issue. Today I turned on the switch, pressed the starter button and I got a groan and then nothing. Several tries and the display went out. I figured it was the battery. No lights either. Put a 10 amp charger on it long enough to get to the starter button and it started right up. Removed the charger. It worked fine the rest of the day. Brought it home, washed it up, and still starting correctly. Put a volt meter across the battery while the engine was running and go approx. 14.5 volts. It ran fine yesterday and the day before.

The starting nine out of ten times was ok to live with, but the experience today of no display, no lights, and not starting without a quick jump from a charger is scary. Don't want to be in the middle of nowhere and have an ATV that won't start.

The battery reads about 12.7 volts at rest. Is it possible that the battery is having an issue on occasion? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

are the handlebars in any particular position when the no start condition occurs? (wiring shorts/stresses/stretched etc.....).
sounds like acid water levels are ok in the battery with numbers like you stated. have you check the ground wires and dash power wires for loose connections around the handlebars? i've had to tighten/adjust mine on my grizzly. it needed some securing with zip ties.

Normally I have the handlebars pointing straight ahead. Never tried starting with the handlebars turned that I can recall. Must have though. What's weird is I can press the starter button and I hear a click from the relay. I press again it starts right up.

Make sure all your connections are tight everything is grounded properly.

Regardless of the amps your battery is reading it could be bad. Also sometimes the starter solenoid will become stuck. Bang on it with a screwdriver!

Good luck guy

I know the click is from A bad battery connection.
