Default Yamaha Moto 4 1985 Paint Job Help?

Hey, I'm wanting to paint my Fenders on a Yamaha Moto 4 1985 im buying Saturday or tomorrow.

Problem is, plastic is expensive, and plus It's plastic, it'll chip plus you'll be riding through tough crap. Can someone make me a tutorial how to paint my fenders?

I know to sand, but than other people said after plastic or paint remover or something than plastic spray, base and crap. Someone needs to explain this clearly. I'm not even sure how to do it. I wanna paint it Black.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm just about to paint the plastics on my 89 Moto 4 and after doing some research online and reading lots of forums this seems to be the procedure.

First of you need to prep your plastics, ie. sand them down and wash them. Then you should buy a good quality primer specifically for plastics(Apparently this is the stuff that stops the paint just chipping of) and inbetween coats lightly sand with about #400 grit.

Then spray on the color in thin coats waiting about 10mins between each one. Once finished sand down again with some even finer sand paper around #1000 grit.

When the finish is smooth and your happy with it you should then spray a couple of fine coats of lacquer. I read that some times you may have to even sand down the lacquer with like #1500 grit or something if the finish doesn't look right.

Well, of course this method is as of now still untested by myself but this is the general info around on the net. I'm hoping to do mine at the weekend, if I do I'll let you know how it goes.

Goodluck!

I bought a '92 warrior which has had multiple owners. The original plastic looks like it was white and light blue. Then there various dark blue vinyl paints and finally I bought it off a guy who brush painted it camo green. I bought this methylene free paint remover gel by remcho at canadian tire. It removed the top camo green like nothing but was patchy with the vinyl based paint. That could just be because it was the bottom layer. I'm going to attemp to follow the suggest procedure above but I'm just wondering what type of paint would be the best

Well what me and my buddy did was get #320 GRIT sand paper and sanded it all down,Then cleaned the plastics with water to get all the dust off...Just sand it untill you can see a good amount of scuffs.. around 6 strokes is good for each spot. Then we used Acrylic adhesive spray on paint and then let it dry and it turned out great! hoped this helped a little
