raptor 700 suspension
Hey guys whats up. My name is Jim, an im new to this site. I see alot of stuff a bout raptor suspension on here but im a shock dummy and I cant afford the elkas i want. Im needing like in depth instructions on how 2 set up my stock shocks. Im a woods racer and im 205 pounds. I know where the high speed, low speed, rebound, and compression settings are. Just dont know where they need 2 be set at 4 this rough terrain racing. how many threads should I see at top of my frnt, and rear shocks? how many clicks this and that way on rebound, and the clickers? Please help me. This thing is awesome but its whoopin my ace lol.

Welcome! I have some good news for you. If you already have the hi/low and compression adjustable shocks you really don't need the Elkas. Suspension setup is really an individual thing, and what I like may not work for you. However, scrape up the cash to send your shocks out to a good shock builder and they can make them feel/ work amazing right out of the box. Quite a few top GNCC racers are on stock rebuilds and doing well. I run float evol x fronts and a rebuilt stock rear on my YFZ, and I have to say the rear holds its own. It is so good I would have skipped the Floats if I had only known ahead of time.

Here is a thread on Raptor forum that is very useful for setting up your suspension.

For the woods you need to sacrifice some handling(low ride height) for ground clearance. At the same time the shocks need to stay relatively plush. I was pretty impressed with the plushness on the 700s that I have ridden stock and we weight the same. Nothing wrong with running the stockers, they are good units that are capable of greatness later on if needed. Read up on a few tutorials and then go ride that bad boy like you were racing it. Make some adjustments and ride it again. That is about all any of us as amateurs can really do. The first thing is to get the proper ride height/ front rear ratio for that chassis in the woods and start from there. There are a few xc forums that might have better insite if no one around here volunteers that info. I just have very limited experience with that quad though.

Thank you for the advice. Im gonna miss the low ride height, cause Im smokin ppl on the holeshot. They have 2 slow down alot going into the first turn b4 the woods, where as I am able 2 hang off the side of the quad and blast right through it. But its all woods from there. So in other words "I may have 2 sacrafice the holeshot, if it means the rest of the 2 hour race Im comfortable, meaning faster"? Makes alot of sence. Ill check out the xc forums also. Thanx again for the good word.
