Hello, The popping, choke issues, starting issue are all carb related. You can at least pick up a $20 carb rebuild kit and do it yourself. There's nothing to it really. It should take care of your issues. The tight cable is most likely not the cable but the carb also. At least it was on mine. Hope this helps.

ok i finally found out the problem and it was the junk carb. It allowed fuel to flow to one side causing the blockage of the other side.Once that was addressed it was ruuning fine but running too lean. Its probably the fuel im giving it. I'll have to switch them. Thanks for all of your cooperation.

i had the same problem with my raptor when i first got mine when the winter hit. I took it to a shop and they said that the valves where closed which was a lie . But i would connect a batery charger to your bike and and put it on start assist and hit the carbs with a little either it will speed the revolutions up and with the either it should kick right over thats what does it for my 660. And for that backfireing the tune up would be your best bet like the guy said earlier on the thread. You need a set of 45 degree filler gages to properly adjujst your valves.

guess what, the bike did not start this morning what a shame but at least my 80 is still working but anyway like hemi said the carbs are junk on the raptor 660r, i'll probably have to try your way weather spoon and if it doesnt work i really do have a destroyed carb.I'll have to change the carb or rebuild it then but for now the mechanic is coming tomorrow. I'll reply as soon as i get details.

...carbs are junk on the raptor 660r...
Seriously? Or maybe some people just don't know how to maintain and tune their carbs? I think maybe it is the latter.

But I'll admit a single carb setup is easier to maintain (1/2 the work).

take the carbs off the quad and disassemble them and dip them in carb cleaner over night, its the best way to clean them and most likely fix the problem. iud also adjust the valves at this point.. now stop complaining and do the job right

Thanks everyone, the bike is up and running and is revving out properly. Do you know the best exhaust and pipe to put on the 660r?
