Thumbs down Grizz 550 trade in value...NOT GOOD!

I thought that I might trade my 09 Grizz 550 in this fall and pick up a Polaris RZR. Little did I know that the 550 would depreciate by 40% in less than a year. The MSRP was $7599 and NADA high trade-in value is $4500. I read the #s myself from their book. Hard to belive but true. I have to sell it myself, to get more money out of it, as it has only 150 miles on it and do not wish to give the thing away. I think that NADA needs to re-think this one....DOG

Once off the show room floor they price crash thats why I always buy toys used. I know a girl who won a NEW 660 Grizzly in draw, she sold it right away with "zero miles" on it and it still sold for $1500 Canadian less then a new one off the dealership show room floor would cost.

If I was looking for a 550 Grizzly I would buy your one year old ATV with 150 miles on it over a new 550 anyday.

The one thing I do not like about the NADA listings is they are released once a year. That does not take into account any economic changes that may affect the pricing of any vehicle. Since banks use that to determine loans, it should be release quarterly, IMO.

And there are very few dealers that will give a decent trade in.

Makes sense ,since there plan is to resell it for a higher price used.

When you trade in your grizzly, effectively the dealer is buying it from you.

You're trying to sell them a used Grizzly 550. Meanwhile they can buy a new Grizzly 550 from Yamaha for invoice price. I paid about $6200 for my Grizzly 550 EPS, and the dealer was still making money at that price. So figure the dealer's cost on that is probably around $5500.

So $4500 seems like an entirely realistic price. Keep in mind that the dealer has to clean up the ATV and resell it. And I imagine it's tough to sell a used Grizzly for $5000 when someone else will sell a new one for $1K more.

You will ALWAYS lose your a$$ when you trade anything in to a dealer.....I always sell private, unless I just want to get rid of something with no hassle, and don't care if I get my money out of it.
