Default 98 Warrior Only people that know whats up.

I have a 98 350 Yamaha warrior. I have put a lot of time and money into this machine and as soon as I fix something, something else goes wrong with it. I just put a new coil in it because the other one burnt up.... It was sitting for about 2 months before I was even able to get to replaceing the coil, but It ran fine before the coil burnt up. Well anyways I put the new coil in it and obviously it works, but when I crank it over she doesnt wanna start, even when I try to bump start it, It doesnt bump. If I get my buddy to pull me and I have it in 4th or 5th it sounds like it wants to go if I release the clutch and do not touch it, but if I pull the clutch in it dies immediately, same if I try and give it any throttle it will just die. I've messed with the choke, I'm getting plenty of spark, the "reverse" sensor/fuse is bypassed already so none of that is the problem, I have new starter, battery, coil but still nothing. I'm just wondering for it sitting for almost 2 months (which realistacally is not all that long), could the carb need another cleaning or something? I'm out of Ideas at this point. I wouldnt think the carb would need cleaned either. But it is getting good spark, but it is just not fireing up no matter what I do. I know the motor is fine, electrical is fine, I dont know so anyone with some Knowledge of this type of problem please help me....

Maybe the gas went bad? I know technically it should not in two months but if the tank was not sitting 100% full to the top you could have collected a lot of condensation. Especially this time of year when temps are up/down with the day/night.

I always leave things with a full tank to reduce condensation.....Especially with these modern fuels with 10% Ethanol or from dwindling supplies etc..... There is a lot more water in our gas these days and it seems to go bad a lot quicker than it used to.

If all that other stuff didn't work I might drain the gas and start fresh.

I'll second the recommendation of draining the gas. Sitting for two months it is a real possibility some impurities came up in the gas and/or the carb has gotten gummed up. As long as you are getting good compression you can pin it to the carb or fuel.

Usually gas manufacturers say their gas is good for 3 months. If a machine will be sitting any longer than that, you need to pour Sta-bil in the gas and start the engine and run it a few minutes to run the Sta-bil thru the carb. Another theory on your Warrior is the gas evaporated out of the carb bowl and left you a nice gummed-up carb that needs cleaning.

I'm thinking that it may not be getting sparK!!! I put a new coil on it and i've cleaned out carb and put new gas in it. I ran into a wall.... The coil that I had did not have a ground wire coming off the coil. The new one I got has a ground coming off the coil. On the old one I had a ground coming from the harness that had to be hooked screwed in with one of the screws of the coil. Now I put the new one in and put the ground coming out of the coil on one screw and put the one coming from the harness on the other screw... Is that right??? I'm not sure what is going on with it... PLEASE HELP!!!

I really am not sure why the new coil would be different, but as long as both wires are grounded it should be fine.

Anyhow, take the plug out and ground it against the jug or something and crank it over. Look for a strong blue spark.

Default Same Wheeler Same problem

hah who'd have thought someone else would be having the same exact problem I am. 98 warrior new battery/starter/solenoid/coil. If you're like me you're probably getting a decent spark, and if you're like me you could hook the battery up to a jumper crank it for a long time, and after awhile it'll start, but run rough as hell. Guess what bud you've gotta bent valve. The head has inspection ports all over it. Open up the one for the camshaft and each valve and watch it while you're cranking it over. Chances have it the motor will turn everything fine until you get to one valve or the other. Take a 17mm socket and turn the camshaft manually by the bolt on the sprocket. You should be able to tell which one is bent/sticking.

BTW just went through all this last night. Its a bummer, you'll have to take the head off to change the valves, and I cant tell if the guides or shot or not.
