Default Why did they stop making 2-strokes?

I am 14 i i think i want to get a quad. but anyways i have been researching the following quads:

Raptor 700 42hp stock

trx 450r 38hp Stock.

yfz 450 37hp stock.

Banshee 350 35hp stock.

Blaster 200 17hp stock.

Anyways, I've been to a lot of blaster forums and all the guys there comfirm that a Blaster with vito's 240 big bore kit, a port job with a bigger carb along with a good pipe will bump it right up to about 32 hp! a tiny 240cc engine almost has as much hp as a 450cc engine has!

According to banshee.hq A yamaha banshee 350 with only a set of pipes with bump it up to 44 hp. a portjob, bored pistons, bigger carbs and jetting will give it extraordinary power!

Anyways i have been thinking why in the hell would they stop making 2-strokes. i mean seriously, i guess now days 4-strokes are alot more complicated then 2-strokes and far more expensive.

If you want a 2 stroke go to Canada and buy a new Banshee.

in order for them to be able to keep using them they have to come up with a new EFI design for the 2 strokes...and if they come back it will still be a while, i think they will, the main reason as far as i know they got phased out is because of the marketing...they just didnt sell good at all compared to 4 strokes, i dont believe the emmisions bs....2 strokes can run as clean if not cleaner then a 4 stroke...

Default Tree Huggers

Tree Huggers have killed virtually everything fun. And almost everything with power.

I just can't wait 'til Gas is banned.....

It's one thing to be environmentally conscious,.... but killing it all is problematic. Making people responsible would be the thing to do.

One thing I have noticed in the last sevreal years though..... I rarely EVER see a balck smoke vehicle that's not a Semi-Tractor Trailer.... or diesel of some other sort. Make the individual with the crappy polluter vehicle responsible for his/her neglect.

Sorry,.... I'm off my soap box for now.....

"Why did they stop making 2 strokes?" Because people couldn't handle the power.

From what I heard four strokes are more reliable and don't have to worry about rebuilding them every year. 4 strokes also have become more popular over the past 3 decades. I've owned 2 strokes in the past, 87 yz125 and that had alot of power. The power bands on the bikes really felt fast. The 4 strokes have evolved over the years and have alot more power to them when riding then say they did back in the 80's and 90's. I know there are some emissions being put on two stroke engines, mainly CA emissions on string trimmers and blowers. Not sure if motorcycle companies decided if they put emission restrictions on their engines, it would rob the engine of power and decided it would kill sales, thats a good possibility though.

Its a shame they did, i still ride a 96 400 2 stroke polaris that eats 500s and stay close to even bigger quads (utility) i got roughly 5000 miles on it with a top end rebuild and rebuilt just about the whole machine, I have put to much money into it to get rid of it...its to much fun!

when i get a new one i will still keep this one.
