Default Banshee vs.....

I did a timed race around a track with some whoops, jumps, and banked corners against a stock 07' YFZ450. I ride a stock 05' banshee. I lost the race by 1 second. Another thing I found odd is that he went off a large jump with a rough landing that I have landed very badly on before, and I avoided that jump. I thought he would destroy me, but I came closer. My chain was so loose it fell off earlier, I was running a 28:1 mix ratio that day, and I was too lazy to put on my holeshots so I was running mudlites. I figure if I hit that jump, had a tighter chain, was running leaner on the mix, and had my holeshots on, I would have won by a lot. Was rider skill the issue or should my shee win in the tight track environment?

Now for my two important questions. In a straight 100 yard drag race, will I beat the stock YFZ 450? The surface is dead grass covering solid dirt, and I do 2nd gear starts getting into 4th before I reach the end of the strip. It's probably at a 25 degree angle uphill. Would I beat him in a 1/2 mile race on a asphalt road? (this I think i'll dominate in.)

Also, under the same conditions, in the same locations, would I beat a stock raptor 660?

Thanks for reading the wall of text and hopefully answering my questions!!!

rider skill definitely, any 450 will destroy a banshee on a track period, 450s are race bikes, banshees are just sport bikes,as for racing on grass the 450 might win it because as always the problem with the shees are the tire spin, the 450 has gobs of torque and smooth power delivery and will prolly hook up faster, stock vs stock a banshee will beat a raptor 660 every time, at a raptor660s best it will hang with a shee at the beginning but shortly after a shee will pass it.

It sort of depends, in short races the banshee will win because of acceleration, In the long run the YFZ would win on top end, and the 660. Now throw a set of K@N filters and Toomey T6 pipes and they with comparable mods the Banshee would win IMHO.

Straight races will be close, depends on rider weight and gearing. Banshees are extremely choked up stock. Pipes and a rejet will dramatically change the outcome of a drag race

As for the mx race... Thats like %90 rider, whoever rides better will win.

Thanks guys. Are you sure that YFZ will beat me on pavement? I'm pretty sure I'm faster than it straight especially on asphalt where traction is nearly unlimited.

At our local 1/8th mile dragstrip (www.elkcreekdragway.com), which is an IHRA sanctioned track, my 2005 YFZ450 runs consistant 8.60's @ 67mph with an occasional 8.50 pass if I can get a really good 60' time.My mods are a DG slip on muffler, removed airbox lid, Pro-Flow kit with a K&N filter, 13 tooth front sprocket and 168 main jet.

I've raced with four different banshee's at this track and the fastest one ran an 8.20 in the 1/8th mile.He had a wheelie bar, ported cylinders, different heads, aftermarket pipes and silencers, bigger carbs, clamp on air filters and V Force reedcages. The slowest one just had aftermarket pipes and silencers and he couldn't get out of the mid 9 second range.

A Banshee can be made faster than just about anything out there in a straight line dragrace, check out Wicked Motorsports or Trinity Racing. It just depends on how much you can afford to spend.

A stock Banshee tops out at about 68 mph, like stated earlier, they are very bottled up from the factory. A 450 will take a stock Banshee all day.

As for your lap times, that is rider ability.

Yamaha sends their machines out VERY corked up. A stock Raptor 700 can't take a 450, I have raced stock Banshees on my 450 and they hang until about nid 4th gear then the 450s pull on them.

I have seen the same stock Banshees on radar and on GPS. So 75 is a pretty far fetch. Stock Banshees are not that impressive.
