Default Moto 4 Oil and Capacities

Yep, the low range was really handy for pulling or just creeping through the woods and it had to be easier on the clutches. I was told the dual range was dropped to keep production costs down, but don't know for sure or what year. I still have mine and it has never had any mechanical problems. I just change the oil and plug every once in a while. The only time I was ever stranded was when I accidentally knocked the kill switch off when getting back on it and being too stupid to check it; lesson learned. Those were great little bikes.

I have an 87 Moto-4 200. I run full synthetic Lucas ATV oil in it. I found it at O'Reillys auto parts. In my 88 Moto-4 225, I run Rotella-T diesel oil. I was told that since these machines have a wet clutch system not to use regular motor oil. It seems that the newer motor oils have many more friction inhibitors than they used to and they will cause the clutches to slip, but the rotella is designed for wet clutch applications. Don't know if it's true, but thats what I've heard.

As for the oil filter, there is a little round cover with three allen bolts right behind the foot brake, the filter is in there. It is more of a screen than a real filter. Pull it out and clean it, I spray mine clean with starting fluid, then pop it back in.

I use to use Amsoil full synthetic, also made for wet clutches, I found it made the ATV shift smoother also.
