Default Service related question???

I have a 2006 Bruin 250, I went to the local dealer where I purchased the ATV. Bought 3 quarts of 10W-40, spark plug and oil filter. When I got home i refered to the owners manual and found the spark plug specified was NGK DR7EA the one i purchased is a DR8EA, there is no refrence to 10W-40 only 10W-30, and the oil filter is more like a car filter rather than an oil filter element. Can someone please educate me on the spark plug and oil selection, I am extremely confused?

Default Service related question???

the DR7EA plug is a cooler plug than the DR8EA. the number is the heat range of the plug. so a DR7EA is a cool plug and the DR8EA is a hotter plug. the heat range of the plug helps cool the engine. so the 7 will make the engine run cooler and the 8 will make it run hotter. if it says in the book that you need a 7 then the one you have is the wrong plug. always go by the book. like i always say the book is always right.

as far as oil goes, it depends on what the climate is where you live. i live in south NJ and i run 10w 40. plus that's what the book calls for. if yours says 10w 30 then you want to run 10w 30. if its 10w 40 same thing run 10w 40.

the oil filters come in all different kinds. i'm not sure about yours exactly. mine is an element that goes inside the case. it should tell you in the book if not you should get a service manual. you can them on e-bay for about 20 bucks.

Default Service related question???

Thanks Warrior,

I live in Charleston SC and our climate is somewhat different than yours, most of the ridding that I do is during deer season Aug. 15-Jan. 1. It sounds like my filter is similar to the one you discribe. thanks again and I will go back to the dealer but this time I'm taking the book!
