Backfiring comes from unburned gas in the exhaust. It sounds like it's flooded or gas fouled the spark plug.

After spining it over take the spark plug out and see if it's wet or discolored. If so replace it. I'm pretty sure there's no accelerator pump so pumping the pedal does nothing unless it's running.

WOOOHOOO!! i figured it out....... the backfire caused the rubber intake boot to come off of the carburetor. thankfully the clamp was a little loose or i could of had some serious problems..... thanx for the assistance though, i appreciate it.
