ATVs are not like cars, its more about condition rather than year.

When I bought my 100hr 2001 ATV 3 years ago , I turned down a few 2004s that has 200 hrs and were the same price.

I would rather have a 5 year old Rincon with 500 miles than a 08 Rincon with 1000 miles.

So do you guys use KBB.com to estimate the value? According to them he is looking for full retail price for a 2003 model.

also what else should I look for on a used quad? (I have always bought new then hold onto my toys for quite a long time repairing as needed) This seemed like it was in good condition and it fired right up at 32 deg. outside with a cold motor.
The oil was recently change so was to new to smell any gas and everything seemed tight. the plastic was scuffed some but not bad for an 03 (although nothing really to compare to the other rincons I have seen were junk in comparison)

My wife seems to think I would be better off waiting until after taxes and finding a newer machine or a new KQ450

I just used common sense,no book. I seen a New 2005 SP500 for $8000 Canadian at the dealer's, I found a 100 Hr 2001 mint condition SP500 for $5600 and bought it.

If I bought the new one I would of put 100 hrs on it in less than a month anyways and been out $2400. I Bought a nice 500 touring Snowmobile with the some of the change. Both still running great after 3 years.

When looking at used look at averything, the cv boots, frame, the front bearings all of it. On th 03 rincons check to see if the weep hose for the water pump is rerouted up high on the frame, if not you might have a problem whith the pump down the road, on my 03 rincon i did'nt rerout it and it finally gave out at 3000 miles (and thats going in creeks up to the tank, mud holes and anything else i can can get myself into) if i would of rerouted it back in 03 i would not have had to replace it. just check it out good and test ride and decide from there.

The only significant issue for Rincons is that some of the first ones had an O ring inside the case that can fail. This would cause lower oil pressure, which would generally manifest in the transmission slipping, first at high throttle in the higher gears.

The Rincon is a totally different transmission, and some people like them and some don't. They are known for reliability, and I'd say it has the nicest suspension of any IRS machine I've ridden. It glides over rough stuff at high speed, yet doesn't wallow or have excessive body roll on fast sweepers or side hills.

As far as the Kingquad goes, I like the machine but personally I wouldn't want to mess with the shim and bucket valve train.

The Rubicon doesn't have the ride of an IRS machine, but I think it makes an excellent plowing, dragging, and towing quad. Its hydrostat drive is very well suited for low speed, high torque kinds of tasks like that.

I know you were looking at smaller machines, but the big Griz is one of the nicest machine on the market now. The 450 might also be a good choice.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose.

OK so I stumbled across a 2007 Polaris Sportsman 500efi with only 3 miles on it for $4500 so I bought it. I just picked it up tues nigh so I have not had a lot of time to ride yet but my son and I went out tonight and put on 5 miles. Definatley a smooth ride with decent power so far. I still have to break in the motor and get used to the size before I can make to many comments yet.

The Newest Neetest thing is GOOD I GUESS, but if you Look Close and are very patient, there are quit a few GOOD DEALS to be had out there...

A few weeks back a friend and I got a 1999 Honda Forman 450ES for $2990.00 cash, it had 800 miles on it...

Yesterday I got a 1999 Honda Forman 450ES for $2000.00 cash, it has 350 miles on it...

I think it depends on what your looking for in a Quad, I tend to feel that first, second and third are very important gears on any Quad, but the honda Rincon starts in fourth Gear and is 100% dependant on speed and high end tourc, of which I feel may be drug induced thinking, or sleep working Honda Enginears...

Electric Shift is COOL, 450=432cc of which is plenty for me, but I'm a very old dirt bike guy, and I was once told that the more gizmos you got the more stuff you got that can break, so just TRY TO KEEP IT SIMPLE...

Happy Trales, and GOOD LUCK To all of you...

Congrats on the new quad wolfjon. It's time to update your signature. You can see from mine that I think you made a good choice.
