Default "05" Honda Foreman 2WD Capabilities

Just purchased a 2005 Honda Foreman (2WD) 475cc. I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions? Any known problems with this machine? I know since its 2WD it may have a few traction problems, but will it push snow if rear tire chains are used? Will the chains damage the machine in any way? What kind of "ECONOMICALLY" priced plow would you recommend? I intend to install a winch, but other than the WARN brand are there any other brands worth purchasing? Where is the cheapest place to buy ATV tire chains, snowplows, and winches???

Congrats on your new machine! You did indeed pick a good machine despite the ribbing you will get about buying a 2wd........As long as you get what YOU need, who cares. The 2wd will push snow with just a little know how. A friend of mine plowed his and a neighbor's driveway for years with a 2wd Rancher. I'd think that tire chains may help along with possibly some rear weight.

Look for tire chains and plow kits at Rocky Mountain ATV. They have an online catalog.

I also bought a 2x4 Foreman this summer(blue). So far I have been nothing but impressed with it on the trails and in the mud. We all know its more fun to play in the mud in 2x4 anyway. With the recent 8 inches of snow we got here in central Indiana I also wondered if the Foreman could be used for plowing? I am looking to add a winch so why not a plow to go with it.

Been looking at Warn winch and plow set from ATVdirect for $670 plus a set of tire chains for $50. I figure that might be good insurance that it will never snow again if I have a plow already to go in my garage...lol

Any plowing I wil do will be mostly flat , so I have no fear that the Foreman will not be able to handle the job. Let me know what everone thinks.

u should get chains if its at all icey, my buddy's rancher 2x4 will start sliding on ice and u have to push it to get going alot, he does quite well but if he packed snow or ice on road, and there is any sort of incline he will slide, i on the other hand will spin for 3 seconds and start going, chains would prolly fix all his problems

Several atvs ago, I had a 2 wheel drive that had a 42" blade, and chains made ALL the difference in the world (even on plain snow without ice). Additional weight on the rear rack helped, but not nearly as much as the chains.

You can purchase chains quite reasonably on Ebay, but I don't know how good the quality is.

Weight is definetly a good thing. I have 150 lbs of sand on the back of my 4x4 (plus my weight) that made a big difference. The weight of the plow on the front of the quad gives you even less weight on your drive wheels, so the sand helps a lot.

Chains also make a big difference. With chains and a good bit of weight you should be good for about a foot of snow, as long as it's dry and light.
