I need a trailer and assistance from someone who has seen many set-ups?
I'm in need of a trailer as ramping my 2007 Predator on the back of an 8' pickup bed is getting old. I was looking at getting an open trailer with the treated wood deck 6'x14'. After measuring my current Predator 6'L x W3.75' and getting the measurements for my "wish list" Sportsman 800 EFI (6.91'L x 4'W). Hoping to get the Sportsman in July or August $$.
I also would like the trailer to double as a Snowmobile trailer in the winter. No, I don't have a snowmobile yet but that is another on my wish list. Looking at the size of the 2up touring those jokers are large 10.7'L x 4' wide. I guess I can only get one on with 4' of free space.
With all of the about said has anyone ever used the trailer with the side ramp? My thinking is that I must move up to a 7'x14' with the side ramp. That should allow me to drive the proposed Sportsman on the side ramp which will place it horizontal at the front of the trailer leaving about 7'x10' for the Predator. 1' doesn't seem to be enough to drive the Predator up the side ramp and moving it to the left by 4+ feet (without muscling it over) to allow the Sportsman to drive up the ramp - which in turn would leave about 4'x7' for another small ATV?
It just appears as though I will need to use muscle to make any solution work??

Hello,
Having the right trailer depends on what you are going to do with it. It also depends on where you are going to store the trailer when not in use. If you have plenty of room to store the trailer when not in use then it really doesn't matter how long it is does it? I was given a 4 position snomobile trailer that I am using to tow my 2 Grizzly's. I cut 5' of the trailer off of it and am using it as a side load for the quads. It is still a bit too long and I should have cut it down another 4 feet or so. The way it is, I can haul 3 quads sideways, or 2 end to end. I can tell you that the longer your trailer is the better it will ride, and the easier it is to back up. I have seen the very small trailers that are just big enough for 1 quad and they can be a nightmare to back up because they are so short. If you have the ability and the equipment to do it, it is better and cheaper to build your own. I have the plans drawn up to build my own side load, with built in hinged ramps that I will be able to fabricate with factory made axles and springs for less than $600. It will be 7' wide by 10' long (the deck), with a removable 6' long tongue, and it will have a load capacity of 2500 pounds. I think that custom made is the only way to go for me as I have no place to store the trailer except for a small 1 stall garage, and the trailer I have now makes it very hard to get in and out of the garage, and even more difficult to walk around the trailer while in the garage. If I had a place to store it outside it wouldn't matter. But it is something to think about.

Storage is a concern as I live in the city and close to the center of the city - meaning I have difficulty finding a parking space for my car. I do rent a gagage for $50.00 a month. I have stuff in there I need to get rid of. I plan on storing it there. I guess that's the price I have to pay to be a city dweller.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time or energy to build my own. I have too many irons in the fire. I bought the quad to force myself to pull away from the world on occaision.

I too am stuck in the city and am having to pay $80 a month, so you are getting a good deal. lol Where you located? I am in the far SW burbs of Chicago.

Zieman makes some really nice side load ATV trailers.
If you want something that will double as a snowmobile trailer, though, you are probably going to have a split tilt bed trailer. I've used a snowmobile trailer to haul quads. Other than having to hit it at exactly the right speed to get the bed to flip flat w/o sliding back down, it worked OK.
Many snow mobile trailers have the little tiny tires, though, and I'd want 15" wheels or bigger.

The trailer in the picture that Jeffin posted is very similar to the one that I am going to build. The difference being a removable tongue, and instead of having a solid deck I have 2 heavy duty mesh panels that will allow any mud to fall through. The mesh is made of 1/4" steel rods that are a screen with the opening size of 1-1/2". It bites having to wash off the quads and then have to clean the trailer as well. My dad came up with them from a friend that has a hog confinement business and they use them in some form there. They are brand new, powder coated, and very strong. They measure 4' X 7' each. I won't have the mesh over the axle, just under the quads. I think it will make a great trailer, all for under $600.

You can't really tell in the photo I posted, but the deck has maybe 8" wide metal slats with a gap in between.
Being able to hose quads off while they are on the trailer and have the mud fall through the deck is indeed a very nice feature to have on an ATV trailer.
Cody, it sounds like you are going to have one very nice trailer. Post some photos when you get it done.
