Default 6.4 Diesel Ford Owners

Does anyone have the problems taking a hill with a trailer that my cousin does? With his 40' hauler loaded down he can barely reach 50 on some hills while his brother in law goes by at 60 in his new Chevy with the same trailer and load! His brother, father and him all have new Fords and all have the same problem. This motor is supposed to be so strong! WTF!

Yeah I know what you mean. i had a 2007 F250 with the 6.o turbo diesel and that thing was a dog. I had some mornings where i couldn't make it up my driveway, It's steep but not too bad as I've had a full concrete truck down it.... When i had 27ooo miles on it I started having major power problems... It's started cutting out and running real ragged and then i blew the turbo.... Luckily it was under warranty as i only paid a $100 deductible for the whopping $6000. in reopairs... When i hit the 35ooo mark i started having similiar issues. I immmediately took it to my dealership and traded it in on a 07 F150 FX4 as the 08's were out and the 07's were $10k off sticker...

I miss the towing and hauling of the 250 diesel BUT I WILL NEVER own another Ford diesel.... If I ever need a diesel, I'll get the Dodge with the cummings and never look back!

I would say that there is a problem with the Ford. The HP and torque of the 6.4 and 6.6 D-Max are real close. Now, the Fords are heaver but not that much.
The Chevy should win, but not by as much as you say that is happining.

I have a '96 with the 7.3L Powerstroke and it still runs strong. But it is on the third transmission. I gave it to my son and replaced it with a '05 Dodge Cummins 5.9L. The Cummins is a real hoss.

I dont want to start talking brands now guys! I am wondering if anyone out there has replaced the exhaust and intake on a 6.4 because thats what I told him to do. My cousin doesn't want to go with a tuner yet because of the warranty and his edge blew up his last 6.0 so he is leary of doing it. He says even unloaded it doesn't want to pull hills. I wonder if he should take it to the dealer and get his dpf looked at. Maybe its not doing its burn cycle and its full, although that should trigger a light.

Both the 6.0 and the 6.4 have been nothing but pain in a_ _ engines mainly do to head issues with the 6.0 and programming issues with the 6.4. It does not help that Ford and Navistar are in a bickering over warranty issues nither. Ford is reportably going to do there own Diesel (6.7 V8) for 2010 but we will see about that. As far as your issues with the 6.4 I willing to bet it is a computer issue or one of the turbos is shot (the bigger of the two). I would assume it would be under wannanty (100.000 miles I think is there warranty) and would take it to a dealer to have it checked out. ( If they will even warranty it LOL ) (JK)
