problems loading atv into lifted truck

i do still have my kfx 400, i have a 02 dodge truck short bed. the problem im having is geting the bike in there and still keeping the front tires on the ground and not rolling over. does any companie make a wench that mounts to the front of the bed to whench my atv in? i almost died at the car wash loading it, set the front tires on top of the cab. i dont really want bolt holes in my bed, i wish i could but somthing that attachs to the frame and comes up and mounts a whench anyone know how i could do this?

is it a problem because your truck is high and you are having issues getting it in because u get air driving it in? Or because the bed is to tight. If the bed is too tight get a trailer. Carson trailer makes a good 5x8 utility trailer for about 1000bucks out the door. if its because your are getting air then back ur truck up on to a curb and load it. Or gett a set of longer ramps that fold in half. Or get a ramp that u can cable to the truck so it doesnt slide out and then u can go up slow instead of trying to hit it fast.

I used to load my King Quad into the back of my 81 Chevy with a 4 inch lift and 33 inch tires using a 6 foot ramp. Never had any problems.

Yes, Warn used to make a winch and mount for the back of the truck specificaly for this type of application can also be used to load just about anything within the load limits and I do not recall but it was around 800 to 1000 pounds. They use to be in the Cabelas magazines. AlaskaBoy.

I've been fighting that problem ever since I got my Dodge Ram (short bed) - and the problem is exacerbated by the short bed. Twice, I've hit the front of the bed and dented it

I ended up with two solutions:
1) drop the rear wheels of the Dodge into a depression or curb to lessen the steep-ness ofthe ramp angle (this is not always practical)

2) buy trailer to tow the ATV (I'm buying it this weekend)

A third solution would be to lengthen the ramps. Anything that reduces the steepness of the ramp angle will do.

You can find a 8x10 tilt snowmachine for less then then 1000 bucks. I bought mine used for 400 and I can carry 2 fullsize quads and a kids quad on it. Also it tilts so you do not need a ramp. AlaskaBoy.

Beastman, I've got a solution to your problem, get yourself a back rack on your truck and mount an atv winch or a boat puller. I'm using that to haul moose into my truck best bet is to get an old warn 2500 lbs with remote and add as much wires as you need. I've got 15' on mine and work great. Went around at ATV repair shop and got used winches for half nothing.

mtd, I was looking at your photos and was wondering what the spread is on your 30 pointer? We do not count points up here rather we measure the spread, it looks like it is around 50. Is this close?

The area I hunt it is restricted to 50 inch or bigger or 4 or more browtines on one side. I see yours would fit the 4 browtine resriction but was wondering if my size guessing is accurate based on using your quad being around 4 feet wide. AlaskaBoy.

Your right on 52" spread.
Got one 4 years ago and was a 61". Not as big of palms but very wide. Palm was like scope, will take pictures and place it on my page. Had one stuff that we shot my grand-father, my father and I. I was only 16 and got an outfiters giving $5000 extra for it after it was mounted was 59 1/2 spread but was huge...
Also a friend of mine use to be working in Yukon and we're looking at going hunting the real big one up your way.

mtd, I sooo ready for hunting season [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] only 5 long months to go[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]. Oh well, at least I can still tell the size of the racks( my first guess was going to be 53 but my friends say I always guess to big) and I can work on my calling it gets the dog excited and the wife annoyed or is it the other way around [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img].
