I bought a used 85 Quadsport and the previous owner stated it had a stage one cam in it. I need to know if there is a way to ID the cam that's in it as I need to make a valve adjustment [the intake is way to tight] and without the brand of cam can't get the specs.

Personally I would run the Stock Valve clearance for now until you can find out what cam you have.

I checked the specs for a Web cam [which seem to be the most common] then set the valves to stock specs but as close to the Web numbers as I could. It seems to run okay but is a bit hard to start. I may tweak the settings a bit at a time until it starts easier or it starts running bad. Either way I will not exceed the Web cam range and will only go a very small bit at a time.

 

Well yes lt230s are a little tricky to start but once you figure out how your 230 starts you will be fine.
My 230s starts second kick with choke on in warm weather n just idles nice.
Cold weather i need to pull plunger out and full choke n by the third kick it starts most of the time.
I like my valve clearance a little on the loose side as long as they don't make a lot of noise.
