king quad
Just picked up a 94 king quad 300. Before reading the manual I went and dumped some regular oil in it to top it off. Who knows what the previous owner used. I noticed it slips in 3rd gear or higher. Low range seems fine.. no experience either this type of automatic clutch. Could it just be the oil or should I order a clutch kit? Ordered a new oil filter and the proper spec oil for it. Other than that it runs great.. even in first gear it will spin the tires

Well found 1 problem.. Front breaks were almost seized solid..One side I could not even turn by hand. they are not releasing.gonna drain all the rusty crap fluid out and flush the system with new. Looks like the pistons are just a standard size that u would find on a import car. that should help with the clutch a bit.. at least if I need clutch rebuild pack they are cheep..

The clutch, once engaged, shouldn't slip regardless if the wheels are locked or not
I was towing a heavy load of dirt uphill today that bogged 2nd almost until the engine stalled, and the clutch didn't slip a bit. If it's slipping at all, you need a new one, unless you're ok with the slipping.

Hopefully will find out today when the oil comes in and filter. who knows when they changed it last... Would not be surprised if the clutch was shot.. The Previous owner weighed 500+ lbs, and the son had to be at lease 300lbs.
To me it don't matter if it slips anyway.. not mine its the GF,s.. hehe and usually were we ride their is no need for anything above 3rd usually.

It depends how much pedal play you want. If you play around with the screw enough, you'll figure out where you want it set.
If you turn the screw out too much, you'll have a lot of pedal-play. If you don't turn the screw out at all, then the clutch may not engage fully and could slip. It would be like driving a car with your foot on the clutch all the time.

I forgot whether turning it in or out means less clutch. You have 3 clutches and one isn't automatic. There is a centrifugal clutch (#4 in pic) like on a go-kart that allows you to get moving from a stop. There is a one-way clutch (#3) which lets the engine brake. Then there is the gear shifting clutch (#14,15,16) which is what we've been talking about.
