Default 86 LT230s electrical issue?

I am getting closer to having this thing running well... at this point it will start first kick and idle nicely. When I ride it seems mostly good, except it seems like it is misfiring at times, I hold the throttle steady and it bogs down for a second then catches again. After about 20-30 minutes of riding, the motor will eventually bog down worse and backfire and will not recover, it just stalls. I let it sit for 10 minutes and it starts back up and rides fine for another 10 minutes until it bogs down and stalls again. Also when it is hot, usually just before it stalls, the idle will start going crazy. It idles extremely high then dies and I have to let it sit. Every time I pull the spark plug its covered in dry carbon.

I just got a new ignition coil, which didnt help. I cleaned the carb really well also. Its completely stock. The exhaust is really gummed up because the last owner ran it for who knows how long with the piston rings leaking badly, but I don't think its restricting air flow. I've been searching for possible problems, and can't find much besides checking wires for corrosion.

Does anyone have any ideas? Had a similar problem? Almost bought a new CDI but before I drop that kind of money I want to look at every other possibility.

Sometimes when it revs high then cuts out its running out of fuel might try adjusting floats, and did you just trade a 230 motor for a DG muffler n parts???

yup that was me haha. I adjusted the floats to be parallel with the carb, now I'm getting pretty constant but light black smoke. When I rev it high and let it come back down, it will idle low and stall. But if I start it up and just let it sit it will idle all day. The clip on the carb needle is on the middle notch.

black smoke, that sounds like its to rich you can move the clip up one more notch n see if it improves.
