no mods all stock. exhaust isnt plugged either. will look into carb. is it possible that breakin procedure was done improperly, because my friend said when they bought it new their kid took it out and it sounds like he ran the **** outa it! just curious. the quad isnt mine just tryin to help them out.

A lean condition not enough fuel to much air can cause a furnace effect. Try riching up the mixture on the carb and see if it goes away. If the bike was just bored out and the stock jets are still in play this could be your problem. Not to mention if the bike is ridden in this condition the piston will eventually burn a hole in the top of itself and back to square one the bike goes.
I am guessing as my mechanical knowledge of quads is limited but I was able to find numerous cases of the same issue on the net.

I am not sure about the improper break in but the mixture can be adjusted a little with the mixture screw on the carb. There should be two screws, one will adjust the idle and the other will play with the amount of fuel being delivered. Turn the mixture screw all the way in with a screwdriver, the quad will begin to sputter like it's going to die and it just might if you are not quick. Once all the way in quickly turn the screw out 2 full turns and see how that works. Count how many turns it goes in just to see if it was lean, 1 turn or maybe 1.5

Does it get hot just idling or hard running an riding? Jetting is the way to go if its getting hot riding around. Also do a good cleaning on the carb an make sure you blow out each individual jet to make sure she's all clean. If the carb is really gummed up it might just need a GOOD cleaning.
