Default 2009 Suzuki Z400 Nerf Bar Build

Well after looking around at different nerf bars for my 09 suzuki z400 i could'nt find any that i liked and i would rather make my own considering the price of them. I didn't want ones that are real big and stick out even with the tire which most of them are because their ment for racing so you won't get hit by someones rear wheels. But i trail ride more then race so i wanted a smaller pair that protect my feet from sticks/ rocks and such so i figured why not make my own. I wanted steel over aluminum for duraibility. Also they only weigh 2 pounds each. On to the build!

Some left over bent to the perfect angle 7/8''x 16 ga tubing. I had to splice it to make the longer

All mounting brackets fitted up and welded. The key is to set the machine hot and keep the heat on the thicker 1/8'' plate and roll the puddle into the 16ga tubing

Test fit was done and everything is fine
Tabs all welded up. Same thing with scratch start tig, keep the heat on the thicker edge of the tab and roll the heat onto the tubing while adding filler.

Thats amazing that you made your own nerf bars! they honestly look better than some of the factory's bars. Way to go

It is attached on the front fender support bracket bolt. I had to replace the 8mm bolt with a longer one due to the one on there is to short and dose'nt bite the threads enough. But its a 8mm bolt so its plently strong enough and i wanted to mount it there instead of off the engine mount bolt because i don't like the way the ones that mount off the engine mount look. You can see in this picture where it bolts in at.
