Centrifugal Clutch Question...
A little background:
Just got a LT185 from a friend at work for free. He said it was running a year ago, but hasnt since. He thought there was a problem with the transmission because you had to rev the engine rather high to get it to move anywhere, however it would shift into every gear.
Anyways, a day after I got the ATV I read somewhere that it has a centrifugal clutch. This got me thinking that the weights in the clutch were probably worn or out of adjustment, thus causing the high revving problem.
Today I pulled off the cover and pulled out the clutch pack. Took her apart and found about a 1/8" gap between the centrifugal clutch weights (which have the friction material on them) and the wall of the drum that they contact. I also noticed the weights and drum have grooves worn into them.
Finally my questions are:
What is the spec for the weights to drum clearance?
If no spec does 1/8" seem too much?
Is there an adjustment to take the weights closer to the drum?
Are the weights and drum supposed to be grooved?
Thanks to anyone who read this whole post and can give me any sort of answer.
