King Quad 1998 Sputter / Backfire / Miss
Hi there,
I'm new on the forum, and I'm hoping to get a little help with my King Quad issue.
We've had the bike since it was new in 1998. It always ran like a champ, but has recently developed a 'sputter' or 'miss' while under acceleration to the point where it is unrideable since it cannot accelerate. The bike idles fine, but tends to sputter badly when throttled up.
We've rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel pump, replace the petcock, replaced the spark plug... but the problem persists.
Can anyone offer any advice? I've searched the forum, but havent found my 'exact' problem.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

check your intake valve lash, i can promise it is tight if so adjusting the lash is only a bandaid . i have had three of these quads and all of them had the symptom you are describing they all needed the intake valve replaced .the valve gets sucked into the head farther and farther untill it will run no more . you can prevent it by changing and wrapping your air filter with some form of prefilter . the valve develops a lip from dirt ingestion

My battery was toast!!! Replaced my battery and now everything runs fine. An old battery, or one not putting out enough voltage can mess with the electrical function and cause the engine to fire sporadically.
Don't forget the check the small stuff!
Lucky me... $46 fix!
