DR250 in a LT230 "FrankenQuad

Hello,

We have A frankenQuad, and we just got into running condition. Frame of a 87 LT230S and an engine of a 85 DR250 enduro.

We started it today and things kinda went haywire.

First, it was really hard to push start, so we pulled it behind a truck. We tried to start it in 1st gear, but that didn't work. Moved up the gears and finally got it in 4th I think or it could have been 2nd, i thought i knew the shifting pattern. When it started, it was revving very extremely high. We messed with the adjustments on the Carb, but nothing slowed it down. Also to my surprise the killswitch doesn't work. The brakes work very well as I almost flew over the handle bars.

Here are a few question I hope someone might be able to answer.
1. What is the shifting pattern for a DR250? Is 1st all the up or is it down? yeah stupid question, but i can't find it anywhere.

2. What can I do to stop the high revving. The carb is a mikuni VM28 off of a 79 yamaha ds-7. (I may have the numbers and letters mixed).

3. Will lowering the main jet help?

4. Should I just hook a ground wire to the frame to get the killswitch to work.?

If you'r screwing with the engine on a quad which you need to start in gear that revs extremly high, than a kill switch is must! High revs could be a number of things. Check to make sure the throttle cable isnt binding and keeping the carb opened. Check the idle adjustment screw as well. Vacuum leaks are another possibility. I'd worry about getting it able to start out of gear, so you can mess with it without having to sit on it.

Well the throttle cable was being pinched by the gas tank. This left the throttle wide open. So I rerouted the throttle cable and made sure the throttle was closed before reassembling. So we will try it again tonight.
I looked at the killswitch and it seems that there is no ground so I am thinking of a way to ground it to the frame.

Oh, we have to push start it because the kickstart is backwards which will hit the frame. We are thinking of a way to put a electric start on it if anyone has any ideas.

hey if the cable doesnt fix the revving i'd look into vacuum leaks either in the carb boot or cranks seals.

The carb was havin some leak issues. So we are designin a holder, because of the set up we had to use. Should be done this sunday. Also gonna work on the electrical problems. I dont think the killswitch is grounded.

If the carb holder doesn't solve the problem and if there are no leaks. I am gonna get a smaller pilot jet and try that since the pilot screw is all the way out and can't be adjusted any lower.
