you need 3things for an engine to run. spark, compression, and proper fuel/air mix. if you have/had weak spark oyu need to track down that issue. on my firends 230 it turned out to be a misaligned pulsar coil off the magneto. the vibration and shock pushed it too close to the magneto.
if it ran but died it sounds like a spark issue. if you have good compression and proper timing then its ether fuel or spark. just bumping the main up a couple sizes shouldn't cause it to drown out bad enough to not start.
no a silencer is not need to start an engine.
O! and buy a new steering stem and reinforce the crap out of it!!!! had the same thing happen-just welded a sleeve and reinforcement around it.
I have good compression. Itll seem like it starts up perfectly, run for less then a second then just die. Ill sit there and keep kicking it and same thing. Whats the correct measurement for the coil? And intake is .001" right and exhaust is .003".? I think thats all it could be. I even tried using starting fluid, no difference so its not gas related. Spark is the problem. I guess
If it's starting, then dying out, guaranteed theres crap in the carb. Sounds like timing is ok and it wants to run. Are you running it with no muffler at all, or with just the silencer off?
If pulled the carb off/apart like 4 times. the jets are spotless. the timing is dead on. i dont know what else. it ran perfectly before the top end rebuild.....
and no silencer, header is on.
no. theres no difference. Thats why i kept checking the timing. Which TDC am i supposed to set timing at? Cuz theres 3 TDCs, when the intake valve is open, exhaust valve, then when both are closed.......right?
And on the cam, your supposed to align the 2 little horizontal hash marks with the head but there is a little "U" in between those 2 marks. Is that supposed to be up or down when lining it up. Thats whats got me confused. So if i have it completely off it wont start. Do you have a manual? lol thats the only answer to this question....
