Default timing an 85 lt250ef quadrunner

I was recently pulling apart my 1985 lt250ef quadrunner when i went a little to far and removed the timing gear and chain from the cam. is there anything special I need to do to have it timed right or is it just put it together and hope for the best. I am putting a new piston and rings in it as well.
