Hey everyone...I'm new to atv's, new to the boards, new to all of it. I just got a 2009 suzuki quadsport z250, and my gf picked up the z90. I just had a couple questions. Off the bat, I've heard some cons about the 250's top speed. Any recommended mods that are a quick extra couple mph's?
Secondly, the dealer was telling me about the governor on the 90 because it's mainly a youth quad and it limits the speeds kids can go. We're grown ups, so what is the protocol on removing the spacer? Should you break it in and then remove them? It's coming off either way, I'm just not sure about the process.

You can remove the spacer on the 90 right away - I hope your GF is tiny. Since you are new to the sport, why don't you keep things stock for a bit so you can see just what you may like or dislike. If you ride with your GF then you'll need to back off the 250 anyway just so she can keep up. Then, if it turns out that you both like riding and you want more speed you can move the GF to the 250 and you can get something bigger.

All good advice, thanks jay, and yeah, she's tiny and a lot less aggressive than me..haha. We will be mainly riding around together, but that doesn't mean I don't plan on breaking off on my own sometimes. Here's another question for you though....like you said, I'm gonna need to hang back with her--is breaking in a quad like breaking in a car? Will it not ride as well fast if I'm a slowpoke during the initial runs or is it pretty consistent? I'm in no rush with mods though, as long as it moves faster than I run, I'll wait to be picky about speed. Just wonderin.=D
I'd go by what is recommended in your owners manual. Realistically, I don't think it makes too much difference to the motor and tranny if you break it in easy or hard. Brakes are a different story though - you'll want to avoid hard braking for the first couple of hours.
