Default 2007 kingquad 450 top speed

Hello I have a 2007 king quad 450. It seems to me it isn't going as fast as it should like 45mph max. It seems at max speed to want to go more but like it has a governor or somthing on it holding it back. Even with the limiter screw removed its the same 45mph max. My question is how fast should I be a able to go and is this normal? If not normal then anything to check its completly stock except for larger wheels ITP Mudlights unless these are slowing me down but I just can't see how. Any help would be great. Thanks

The larger wheels will slow you down a bit - more important, the larger wheels will throw your speedometer off - you'll be going faster than what the speedo says. That could be your entire problem. Top speed stock should be in the high 50's, pushing 60 under the right conditions.

I clocked it with a sportsman 450 and he claimed we aere going 48mph but he was pulling away from me so my speedo is close. I think I'm suppossed to be faster and I say it feels like it wants to go faster but like something is stoping it fro mreving up any more. Low end speed and to about 45mph on my speedo seems fine, Anyone else have any ideas or xp this problem?

Hey Alanvan, I have a 06 700KQ I put just a little more aggressive mud tire on, same as stock size and I lost about 5mph on top end, so it depends on who big of a tire you went with. I you put too big of tire on you mite have to change your ECM and some of them cost as most as a good set of tires. How big did you go? Thay say an inch bigger is about all you can go with out affecting the ECM. You sould check with your dealer or better yet call Dennis Kirk and ask for Techninal Support those boys and GIRLS realy know there stuff. The best thing you can do for your KQ is take that junk paper air filter out and thow it in the trash and go with a good foam filter those paper filters have clamed a lot of motors, I know it's costing me $1100.00 right now and Suzkui won't cover it. Be real careful on what mods you do most them WILL void your warranty and could cost you a lot of $$$. These ATV site are nice BUT you beleave too mush you read you will end up spending too much unnecessary $$$. But to each there own. I have a good frend that has a ATV shop and he said a person's better off leaving your quad stock if all your going to is ever day trail riding, but for the right money he'll build one hell of monster. Just my OPINION, and you know what thay say but opinions. Take care and good luck and safe riding. Rebel700 "aka" Jeff ==== I hope me being long winded helps you.

Governs in, is what your ECM is set at from the factory for top end speed. There is a wire going to the ECM, that if you cut it' it will diconnect over ride button but personally I wound not do it until you talk to you dealer. They mite be abel to fix it. Is it sell under warranty? If so let them take care of it. How big of tires did you put on it? Rebel700 === I could be wrong about the govern. If I am I'm sorry
