howdy everybody,

ive got what i believe to be an '86 quadracer lt250r on the hook and was wondering a few things about it.

is it oil injected or premix?

does it have the adjustable power valve?

any specific things to look out for?

how does it fair with 400ex's, raptor 700's etc.

thanks, austin

Hi Austin,

I have an 86 which fun to ride. Sadly most of the aftermarket parts are labeled for later years. I'm still looking into which ones still work. To ensure it's an 86 you won't see the reed cage, it'll be inside the jug; other years will have it just after the carb. It's a premix quad, I haven't had mine for too long yet, so problems I had were brakes, tires, and sprokets. Very minor for how old the quad is, my rear shock is shot also. I would look around the frame for cracks or unusual wields (showing repair). It depends on the rider and how the bike was treated. My quad sat for over a year, and it's not running right yet, so I haven't raced it yet, but I heard it'll keep with the new 450s, but it's just hear-say coming from me. Good luck.

I'm running 32:1, I heard some people using 20:1, but I think I read on here most use the 32:1. The dealer up in Alaska had a ratio cup, that you just poured the oil into until it reached the line of the ratio you wanted, it takes all the guess work out of it. If it's up there, I'm sure you could find down here.

Hope everything works out on the 250....... I have two 85's and one 91 love them ..... I run 4 oz of oil in one gallon of gas.....Troy racing should have any parts that u may need for the quad...As for racing a 400ex or anything bigger better make sure it a short race because lack of enough gears my 91 has more gears then the 85 and im thinking the 86 also has the same as the 85...good luck with them need more help if i can i will help ya out...

ok cool...

have you had any crank or rod problems with the 85's? somebody told me that in 85 and 86 they used shims on the wrist pin instead of the crankpin and that made some problems with the rod walking around.

yeah when I put the new chain and sprockets on my 86, I cracked the swingarm along the bolts, but you say the later models worked? I dont have a year 88 and up to match all the parts, i figured the fame would be the same size though.
