Thought I'd drop in and say Hi. Sorry for posting here instead of the intro thread (I'll hit that ,too). My names Chip and I picked up a 1986 230 Quadsport today and am pretty stoked! A Google search landed me here and I can see I have a lot of reading to do to catch up!
I plan keeping the bike fairly stock. I was lucky enough to get a parts bike along with it. I've been reading some of the posts and seem to have found that this is the spot for any info I'll need!
I'll be posting up some pix and I work and will be stopping in often to catch up! Thanks in advance![IMG][/IMG]

Well...I'm a true 230S owner..my chain popped and I busted my stator cover! Luckily,I have the motor from the 'parts bike',but I need some advice. When the cover broke,it looks like a portion of the inner case broke also. (see photo). The bolt still threads in but I'm worried it wont hold.

My options are:
A. just put it back together and hope it holds
B. Try to 'beef it up' with JB Weld, etc (if that would even work)
C. Tear the whole motor down and replace the inner case half (or whole bottom, for that matter.

I realize C seems extreme, but I have all the parts and would only need gaskets (assuming everything is ok). I'm not in any kind of hurry to ride and could use the experience tearing the motor down. What do you guys think?

I have the exact same issue to fix right now. I swear you took a photo of my case!
My plan is to replace the bolt with a stud.
The stud will engage about three threads of what's left of the boss. The rest of the stud I will glue in place with JB Weld. It's not meant to ever come out again.

I also plan to install the chain guide and protector- parts that are available from cheapcycleparts.
Oh, yeah, the axle bearings and swing arm bearings have also been tended to so this won't happen again.
Good luck! Post up what you decide to go do!

I did get a case saver, so I'll be throwing that on for sure.I'm going to measure exactly how far the bolt goes in so I know what I have to work with. I'm off the next few days, so standby for updates!

Well...it looks like option B is out for now. I carefully pulled the stator cover off the parts motor and the inner case was damaged on that motor, also. Exact same spot, too. After a closer look at the parts motor, I discovered that the threads go deeper into the inner case than I thought. So, I think I might be ok. I'm going to get a longer bolt to accommodate the case saver and get deeper into the threads.
I'll post some more pix as I go.

I went with Robotic's stud idea. I cut another bolt I had and JB welded it into the case.It worked great. I left some extra on the bolt to insure proper length and will trim it later. I just need a nylock nut and the case will be good to go.

I'm gonna replace the chain and sprokets, too. I also have another common Quadsport issue...shifter linkage is broken. I read on another thread that replacing it all together with a Blaster shifter may be the way to go,so I'm gonna try that.

I realize I'm not exactly covering new ground here but thought I might as well document my progress. Sorry If I'm being redundant.
