Default Polaris 525 Question

Hey- just bought a brand new 08 Polaris Outlaw 525irs. I love the machine, tons of power. The one thing that is bothering me though is that it backfires quite a bit. Is this normal for these machines? I have run only about 1 tank of gas through it, so I'm sure it probably isn't fully broken in yet. Just wondering if this is normal and if it goes away or not.

Thanks!

Jeff

I read that same thing in Dirt Wheels.... I think it was someone writing into the mechanic guy in the back section..... IIRC the tech said it was probably jetted a little lean from the factory to get it passed EPA standards.

Yeah, I'd guess that...

I also noticed that for some reason the exhaust honest to goodness "chirps" right at the exhaust tip.

It drove me nuts... Only the 525 does it... not the 450.

I would say aftermarket exhaust and new jetting would be a great idea.

I sure would like to have a bike just like yours in place of my 400EX now.
I'd like to see if me and the IRS could get along in time.

Probably a pretty good chance this could be the reason. I'm not so famaliar with it but I know snowmobile manu's will do this. Matter of fact the line of motor in my sled, they will burn down in the mid range if held there long enough because of this. But I wouldn't fear as much in a 4 stroke.

For sure it is the jetting from the factory and you should look into a JD jet kit and go from there!
