I need advice (help) on Polaris Gearcase Lubricant...Please!

I have a 98 Sport 400 and drained all of the lubricants out of it.
I went to my local dealer this morning to get the Gearcase Oil my owner's manual recommends and was told it has been replaced with another Polaris Product.
My manual calls for "Premium Lubricant Gearcase Synthetic," PN# 2871478. The color of this oil is a purplish.
My dealer told me this has been replaced with "Premium Chaincase Lubricant for Snowmobiles," PN# 2872951. This oil is clear.
I bought a bottle of the new stuff and it seems to have the same consitency as the oil the gearcase had in it when I drained it.
My question is: Are these two oils the same thing?
Thanks,

Here's a thought........If BOTH lubricants are indeed Polaris part numbers, I would send and e-mail to Polaris and ask them if you can use one or the other products in your particular machine without causing damage. Save their response for your records to support any future warranty claims.

It is true that polaris stopped making the oil that the manual calls for. I was told by my Polaris dealer that the Polaris AGL ATV gearcase lubricant, synthetic Part # 2873602 (purplish) was the direct replacement. Snowmobile lubricants are formulated for the colder weather. I would not use it in warmer weather.

I thought of that last night and tried to do this on the Polaris website. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anywhere to e-mail them. Their website tech support is only a "reference guide." In other words, if your question matches one of their previously recorded questions, you get the answer. There is no e-mail address to actually communicate with a tech support person????

I looked in the 2002 owners manual and it still list 2871478 as the gear case oil,
When I look on the Polaris oil order form it list, 2873602 qt Synthetic gear case lube, premium atv oil, As the oil for the gear case.
I think this is the oil You want
The 2872951 is for snowmobiles (cold use) Would be ok for winter use, not ok in the summer

Its just a chain and a couple of gears, guys. The "name brand only" thing that the dealers try to sell everyone on is nonsense. I've been running sleds for years and have seen everything from 80-90 gear oil, 10w30 motor oil, ATF...dexron and type-f, and everything in between used inside chaincases. I run 75-90 fully synthetic gear oil in my sled and my quad. Has high protection and will still flow in colder temps due to it being synthetic. If you're worried about power loss due to high viscosity and don't care if there's not as much metal to metal protection, run ATF in your case.
