I'm thinking I should buy a winch for my new Sportsman 500. I can get a Warn 2500 for about $411 with roller fairlead and mount, a Warn 2000 for $366 with roller fairlead and mount, and a Superwinch ATV2000 for $269 with roller fairlead and mount, plus postage. Are those with Superwinch pleased, or would you steer me toward Warn?

You get what you pay for. The WARN 2000LB will work very well on your Sportsman. I wished I would have talked to you a week or so ago because I sold a new WARN for $300 to a neighbor which included the mount.

Hillcat,

I got raked over the coals for telling my observations on Superwinches about a year ago. I had three buddies that wanted to save a couple bucks, so they bought Superwinches. The first day at the farm, trying to clear trails of fallen trees, all 3 winches took a dump. After trying to get them replaced by Superwinch (to no avail), all three ended up in the local dumpster, and were replaced by Warns. All three Warns have performed flawlessly for over two years.

I have a Superwinch on my SP500. I put it on new almost two years ago. Haven't had a single problem with it. I bought it mostly becauseI got an excellent deal on it. It's pulled me out of some nasty situations. I've pulled many others out too. I'd suggest, which ever you get bringing along an extra coil of cable and a snatch block. I've never used either but you never know when you might need it.

I've also used it to raise and lower my Polaris 60" plow. Again, no problems and I like it much better than the manual lifter.

My neighbor has a SP500 and the WARN winch. He likes it and also has never had a problem.

I have no experince with the Superwinch but one thing I would recomend is the Warn 2500. I have the Warn 2000 on my 99 SP 500 and have ran out of power twice. Those two times I was stuck in snow and wishing I had the Warn 2500 when my Warn 2000 would not pull my SP 500 out luckly I had two friends with me to help push my SP.

Those of you with Superwinches on your SP 500's, what kind of bumpers are you running? I'm looking at getting the tube bumper from Polaris ($69). Is anyone else using this one with a Superwinch and the Superwinch mounting bracket?

Any problems getting the bracket and bumper to fit properly? I just want to make sure before I buy everything that I can get it all bolted on together.

I've been told (never seen it before) that the Superwinch will not hold a load. The person who uses the winch mostly with his snowplow and every time he'd raise the plow it would start to drift down (slowly). Keep in mind I've never seen this and can not verify the statement. I do know a lot of people who have Warn winches and never complained about its performance.

I have had a 2000#superwinch on my H.O. for 10 months and have had no problems. Bought it from northern tools for 179.oo.I have had it submurged in mud and water numerous times. I have read that the warn winchs have been catching on fire and that they have had a recall.

I have never had a Superwinch, so I can't elaborate on their quality, but I can a Warn. I just purchased a new 2002 SP 500 HO on Oct. 1, and have already placed a Warn 2500 lb on the front. This is the second 2500 I've had from Warn, and have always been pleased. One other bonus with the 2500 lb Warm, it comes with a remote with a 6 ft lead, so you don't have to be on your atv to use the winch like others, and it comes w/ the roller fairlead, a $40 option with all the others. I got the 2500 lb winch and mounting kit for my Sp 500 all for $419.90, and if you give them a business address, they will throw in free shipping, not a bad deal. I have always been pleased with warn, and their reputation is excellent, I can't say that about the Superwinch. If you want the number where I bought my winch, e-mail me at "andyems@hotmail.com", anf I'll give it to you. hope I helped a little.

I had a superwinch 1500 (which by the way you can find for less than $150) on my polaris and it worked pretty good. It never failed and always pulled me out. It could have been a bit more powerful though and a longer cable would have been nice. But it still did the job. Now I have a Warn 2500 (~$295) that I like even more. The quality seems better and it doesn't seem to struggle as much as the superwinch did. But both always did there job. If was to do it again, I don't know if I would go superwinch or warn. I can buy two superwinches for the price of one warn. Tough decision.
