Default Belts and more

I am thinking of putting on a new belt before winter comes..still have the original on my 06 magnum...even after all the plowing and 4 wheeling it is still in pretty good condition... What brand belt should I go with? I ain't buying one from a dealer.. I want to replace the rear shock soon too cause its seeing its age and want to put a new one on but can't seem to find any aftermarket shocks anywhere... I can only find the oems, if I special order them from polaris. Does anyone have oil filter part numbers besides the polaris brand.. I'm sure that there are cheaper filters than the $10 polaris ones.

Plenty of filters that cross reference.POLARIS 3084963 - Alternative oil filters Most people will still say to stay with an oem belt because they fit better and in most cases last longer. If your oem belt is fairly good after 9 years that ought to say something about Polaris 3211077 belts.

Have had good results with Gates G-Force belts and replaced one on a 2012 RzrS with no complaints. Cost effective and reliable. If obtainable, Wix filters have always been my choice.

Oem belt is usually the way to go on any cvt machine. They might be a little more expensive than some aftermarket options but they will last longer. 9 years is pretty great don't you think? Put another oem belt on and you're good to go for another 9 years. Plenty of websites to choose from for getting an oem belt, just make sure it is a genuine oem part.

Get an OEM belt off ebay-they are the way to go on Polaris machines. Might want to look there for a shock as well.

I tried a "Goodyear Gator Back" and found it hard and slipped where my Polaris OEM never would so I when back. My belt looked good also but for $80 I don't mind changing it every 2500 miles for piece of mind.

You can buy a OEM belt online if you have no dealer nearby.

Here is some oil filters that work.

These Oil Filters have 20 x 1.5mm threads, 14 psi by-pass valve, anti-drain back valve, 2.3" O.D. gasket 2.5" to 3.5" long.

Have ran Gates Belts on several different Makes without a issue, but not Polaris Makes. Curious as to who manufactures the Polaris Belt? If Polaris manufactures their own belts, I would suppose they would have to manufacture belts for other Makes as the manufacturing operation would not be cheap and outsourcing would be profitable. Do they label their belts under another name?

Tried to find out for years as to who the manufacturer was for Polaris belts. Could be Dayco,Gates,Carlisle among a couple others.I always had a suspicion it was either Dayco or Gates, but who knows. When comparing a stock belt to aftermarket belts, the aftermarket belts dimensions were almost always a tad larger, especially wider. They'd work ok on some models, not so good on others. A lot of our customers just came back to stock belts after finding out a lot of the aftermarket belts didn't last as long as the oem.

Defiantly Interesting. Having rode many Polaris atv's, my thought has always been that they are lacking in the CVT engagement process. Yamaha and Suzuki have the smoothest engaging CVTs, as where Polaris kicks in all at once. Mostly due to the centrifugal clutch, prior to the CVT, on the Yama and Suz. The pressure on the Polaris CVT engagement may be the reason for the belt differences?

It's really a matter of give and take with an oil bathed centrifugal clutch prior to the cvt system. The Polaris Hawkeye had this system where the centrifugal clutch took the shock load of engagement first then power went to the cvt clutches. The belt tolerances could be closer, belts were tighter, plus they did have smoother engagement, but you ended up having another system to maintain and replacement clutch packs for most atvs aren't cheap.Give a little in one area and take a way in another. Kinda like the old simple 3 and 4 speed auto transmissions compared to the newer 6 to 8 speed transmissions. The newer ones get better mileage, but the constant down shifting and up shifting gets on my nerves let alone the repair costs when one of these gets past warranty.
