Default Need Help - 850XP Spitting oil into headlight???

Well I just came off the bay 7 miles out and was worried the whole drive in. When I started the machine I thought I heard pressure release and my Headlight started smoking like it was on fire. Shut it off and back on and it seemed to be fine so proceeded to go fishing. Looked over while fishin and had oil underneath the machine.

While checking it out I found oil all over the top of the quad and tracked that down to a (vent?) hose that is fed into the headlight housing??? The block was covered as well. Got it back to the truck and hour later - no warning codes. Any idea what the heck happened? Going to remove some plastic and get a better look. Also - I noticed that my antifreeze fill reservoir is empty.

Thanks if anyone can help/heard of this...Jeff

Any crack in the antifreeze over flow bottle or leaking lines. Had that happin to my scrammy.

Not to sure about the leaking oil. What was the temperature outside the day you were riding.

you did i had the exact same thing happen to my 09 850 polaris knows of this problm too what happened is the pcv on top of the motor right under the seat freezes up and doesn't release crankcase pressure so it pops out the plug on the back of the motor between the transmission and block than the oil gets pushed out of the crankcase and blows between the motor and tranny then pushes up the breather hose that goes into the headlight pod making a huge mess and the only way to fix it is to pull the motor take off the flywheel and replace the plug the parts are cheap 5 bucks for the plug 10 for the new gasket but its a pain in the a$$ to pull the motor gotta tear the whole atv apart i will post pics of what it looks like later today

Wow - that looks like more than I have time to do without loosing pieces. I think I need to get the Polaris Rep on the phone. If they know about this - maybe there should be a letter sent out to all the people who bought there products.

Thanks for the replies...Jeff

i agree my dealer was supposed too look into it haven't heard anything back but people surley need to be informed cause it happens too easy, polaris will tell you that the reason this is happening is improper warm up or starting it and shutting it off without a total warmup

Did they make any changes on the 10's and 11's or do they run the same risk?
