Default Polaris Sportsman engine covered in oil

well to day i pulled my 06 sportsman 450 in the shop because i noticed it was low on coolant. When i pulled the seat and the side panel off i noticed the engine was covered in oil like it was spraying from some place but i cant figure out where. I also checked the oil level it was a little low but it smelled like gas and my air filter is covered in oil. Anyone have any ideas?

Check the valve cover bolts, have you had it on its side or tipped over lately? Does it leak gas out of the bottom of carb?

This has been a continuing problem with this machine. I've had it to the dealer twice, they thought it might be the cam, but when through the carb and cam and said it was fine....the covers are tight, yes, it does leak a little gas out the bottom of the carb at times, the screw is tight....

If leaking out of carb the needle and seat in carb are bad, need replaced, you probably also have gas in the oil, needs changed after carb is fixed, your air filter probably smells gassy, its probably a mixture of gas and oil in the airbox, when you get the carb fixed start shutting the gas off when not in use and the new needle and seat will last longer

The Dealer replaced the need and seat twice and they said there is nothing wrong with it? They tought it was the cam the second time i brought it in and they said the cam was fine so they went back throught the carb. THey cut the air box so it would get more air that worked for quite a while now it is back to oil in the air box.

How about this:

The needle gets stuck and puts a ton of fuel into the crankcase. The oil is real thin and it travels up the PCV line into the air box where the gas evaps off and leaves a oil mess in the airbox and everywhere else.

Could be a million other things but this is what I'm thinking.

I also wonder where the coolant went to?
