Default 1992 Big Boss 4x6

I have a chance to purchase a 1992 Big Boss and know nothing about them. I've heard bad stories of Polaris but I have a feeling it's a Ford VS Chevy thing.

Is it a sound machine? Anything I need to worry about? Are they prone to problems? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

I never really like them they have a complicated and troublesome chain drive for the two rear axles, the newer ones use a shaft drive I think now.

There have been pretty much three versions of the 6x6. The earliest had chains to both rear axles along with a 2 stroke 250cc. May have even had a chain to the front axle but not sure on that. 92 is probably this configuration. There was a more recent 500cc version that is a 4 stroke with the middle axle being a gear box swingarm with a chain drive rear??? The most recent and best in my mind (also expensive) is the 800cc with all 6 wheels on IRS. Nice.

It's a 250cc and the ad says new belt so I assume it's belt driven. I've heard it's bad news when the belt gets wet. Any truth to that?

Any information on 1990's Polaris reliability? I don't have much money to spend but I don't want problems or major headaches. I want the thing to work when I need it.

Thanks guys,
Mark

All the Polaris are belt drive from motor to the tanny that is not a issue. Its about what it is from the tanny to the drive wheels, chain or shaft that we were talking about. If its in good shape it my be a deal it all depends.

I bough a mint condition 1983 Yamaha sled thats in better looking condition then my 1999 Ski-doo,the person just did not use it much.

Take it for a test drive but Polaris were troublesome back in 92 especially there 6x6s with full chain drive. You said 4x6 so that means either the front wheels do not drive or the last rear axle?

That seems pretty steep. I don't know if I'd want a 17 year old machine with too little usage or too much. It may be mint looking but have a lot of issues from sitting unless the seller has had it gone over to check things out.
