Default Western NY NewB

Great forum you guys have here. I just purchased an 08 Outlaw 450 mxr as a leftover. I will be doing mostly trail riding with a few track days thrown in. Probably not the best machine for the trails but hey the price was right. I will have alot of questions for everyone here as I have been out of the sport for 20 years. First question I have is, what are some good tires for trail riding. I am not against getting new rims too if i need to go bigger size wise. Thanks in advance.

Hey welcome outlaw.. where in WNY are you?? I'm in Niagara County, Town of Newfane. We ride in Pendleton (Tri County Trail Riders) and Lancaster (Renegade). PM me if you are close and want to ride sometime. Oh, and welcome to the forum!

I can't help with tires, being a ute rider, but the mxr can definitely use the aftermarket air box mod to really cook.

Bitterfitter, I am all the way down in Jamestown. Most of my riding will probably be in PA, but I'm not against riding up your way some time.

Well the ITP holeshot HD's or the Maxxis Razr 2's are very good "aggressive" sport bike tires, the HD's will last much longer, but the I personally like the Razr 2's better, because they are softer, which makes them bite and ride better, but they will wear out a little quicker

IMO either are very good tires

We go down to Copper ridge every so often. I'll let you know next time we are heading down. We also try to do Majestic once a year.
