Hey folks, I have a 1993 350l 4x4, The rear drive chain is somewhat loose. Is there any way to adjust it, or is it time for a replacement? The teeth on the sprocket look good, not sharp, and don't seem to be worn.
Yep you can adjust them. Just needs replacement if you cant tighten it any more. Cant remember how to do it. I had a 1992 350L, adjusted all 3 chains alot, just cant remember off hand.
lossen the bolts off, get a brass or aluminum punch. And just bang it forward, on those sort of flat spots. Another method is using a crescent wrench on those flat spots. The method explained in the manuals, is using two punchs and a prybar. By placing them in the holes on the side of the bearing carrier. or put the punchs through holes in the sprocket into the holes in the bearing carrier. then just roll the bike forward.
don't forget the front two, the adjustment on them is pretty much the same deal.
the front pinch bolt is accessed through the bottom of the frame. the middle ones well they are bit of pain to get to. I like to stand the bike on end to get at them.
tension for front two should be a 1/4" of freeplay. The back the same but with the suspension compressed fully. uncompressed it seems to be about three fingers. (halfway between the sprockets of course)
