Default lights

I just joined today and I was wondering if anyone has the way to hook up the reverse lights when you engage reverse or with some sort of switch. The dealer was no help. I had my 2000 trail boss to work when I put it in reverse but that was simple. this look tough with the computer and all, saw a demo from Polaris for 06 sportsman they did it with a switch. Is there a kit or is it home made?

you just need to find and take power from the switch coming out of the shifter that has power going to it in reverse. use a relay and power the rear lights. i have no idea what wires are what, but it shouldnt be too complicated.

What machine do you have? The newer Sportsmans are pre-wired for the rear work lights already if that's what you own now. The kit is @ $20 at the dealer which consists of the bulbs and mini rocker switch. I was looking at wiring mine to come on in reverse but it is just as easy to turn the switch on instead of dealing with more wiring.

the reverse wire color is purple from the wheeler. it is ground side. here is a drawing on how to wire it. this diagram is what i have but i needed another relay as polaris has a resistor pack on the newer models. the trans sends a ground signal to the resistor pack, then sends the resistor code to the speedo and changes it to what gear your in on the speedo. if you don not have the resistor pack one realy will work. if you have a resistor pack you will need 2 relays.

i have an '07 scrambler and installed and connected reverse lights to my rig. i bought some small yet very bright offroad lights from walmart and a 12v relay from the auto parts store. i got the service manual from another site and printed off the wiring schematic. using a crimp on type connector i found the signal wire that feeds the rev indicator on my dashboard and connected it to the relay along with the hot, neutral and output wires to my lights. now when i shift into reverse the whole world is lit up behind me. i debated on hooking the hot wire to the relay off the headlight output to only have the backup lights come on when the headlights were on, but said what the heck and left it the way is was. works very well....

any center of double throw switch will work. i just used the hand/thumb warmer switch to make it all look the same. plus there water proof. but like i said any switch will work. you could use a plane old swich. this way it will turn on the the reverse lights everytime you back up, and you can turn them on with the switch, but then you wont beable to turn them off via the switch.

also your 08 has a resitor pack like mine. so your gona need to cut a wire and add another relay to the wire diagram above.
