02 Sportsman 500 Front Axle Seals

I am changing out my front ball joints, and had to remove the strut to from the bike to get them out. I am wondering if I need to change the axle seals when I go back with it? They dont look like they are in bad shape. It looks like one is stuck on the outer CV joint, and the other is where it should be (in the hub).

Does this sound right?

Thanks....THis is the first time I have torn my front end down this far! I am rebuilding the rear suspension, and a little work on the fron too......3500 miles/740 hrs...

Best to replace the strut seal since you have it down(easier now than later if leaks). Draw a line around seal as a reference to how deep to knock the new one in! I've found a lot of my local doityourselfers have installed seals in too far and wont seal around driveshaft sleeve! If you have a set of bearing installers is best,BUT a socket the same size of the seal will work. As far as the hub seal,you have to have a press to install seal or you will damage it. Make sure you install seals the right way and NOT backwards! OPT

Can you elaborate as to why you need a press? Is it possible to install seals without removing struts?

I managed to remove and install my ball joints just fine without removing strut!

You just need a seal puller for strut seal(works better than trying to pry out with a screw driver) and strut can still be on machine. The strut seal can then can be seated with a bearing installer (if you have a big enough socket ,can work also) The hub seal must be pressed on because of tight tolerances(old hub seal can be knocked out with a punch). I've had too many customers that thought they could do it with out damaging hub seal by trying to use a block of wood and hammer it in! They usually ended up bringing me the hubs so I could press a new seal in for them. OPT
