Default Spacers for Rad fan?

Ok so Ive seen on the net where guys will use spacers to keep the rad fan back about an inch so mud and dirt wont build up. Has anyone here done that? Does it work well? What did you use for spacers??

Thanks

Well if you do this it will suck all the air in from around the side of the rad instead of though it. Interm no cooling the bike down.

I never thought of that!!!! Very good point and thank you!!! I just saw a few people doing this so they didnt have to relocate the fan. I think Ill be leaving it right where it is. I dont mind spending hours cleaning it!!!
