Default Spark Plug boot polaris 90

I was inspecting the spark plug on my 2003 polaris scrambler 90 and noticed when i took the boot off, something fell out. it was almost like an omega sign shaped piece of metal. i figured it was to hold the boot on the plug. Now when it is ridden the boot tends to fall off thus shutting the atv off. Is there any way to fix this? I really dont want to buy a whole new ignition coil, and im not sure what the cap and base part exactly are? is that the part I need? do you cut the old cap and base off and wire the new one on? any suggestions. Thanks in advance!!!
