Question Please recomend a Winch for a Sportsman 500

Good afternoon,

I finally sold my Predator and purchased a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI. I would appreciate a recomendation for a winch. I will be using the bike for trail riding and plowing my driveway. I know Warn is the top name, but is it worth it? Is their anywhere that sells kits that include the mounting plates? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you are going to use it alot, I would go with warn. I did and I'm happy with it after 2 years of plowing snow and 5 years of trail riding.

Don't get a gorilla winch. I have a 3000lb one on my Arctic cat 650 H1 and it wont even budge my bike on flat dry ground. i always heard that you get what you pay for. My next one will be a warn for sure.

If it is not an American made winch it will not be reliable (when you need it most) nor will it last. WARN are hard to beat. The 3000i

Not saying a Warn isn't the best winch. However, I bought a 2000 lbs. Champion from Costco for like $70. I have had it for 2 years, with zero issues! I have submerged it more than once. I would like to upgrade to a 3000 because I can stall out the 2000lbs if I am really burried but... other than that, no complaints. When it eventually lets go, I'll buy another one (3000 lbs. though) and still be hundreds of dollars ahead of a Warn! Totally just my .02

Agreed, I have a Gorrilla, and I've had them send me 3 new ones, and the one I have now has held up for almost 2 years now, but my next one will be a Warn 3.0 RT for SURE, ebay is the cheapest place that I ever found in my searching

I bought a Viper winch for my sportman. It came with the mount as a package deal. easy install, Well easy enough. I haven't had any issues yet but it is only half a year old. Saved me hundreds and it get good reviews. Lots of guys say they work well. I can PM you the dealer I used. They were very helpful and shipped fast.

Another word of advice. What ever brand you go with, get the synthetic rope upgrade. And for plowing I just used some high grade marine rope to avoid wear and tear on the synthetic rope and cable sucks for plowing. Trying to crimp a new end onto the cable after it snaps in -20 cold is not fun. With the marine rope if it does break, just tie it on again and youre back in bussiness.
